Somewhere Between Fire and Sunrise

R60 Ashton - N2 Mossel Bay Drives

Some stop for coffee... I stop to take photos

Early last week, I headed out before dawn for work, several hours from home. It was a long, dark start just after 05h00 but by 07h45, as I passed through Ashton and turned onto the R60, the sky began teasing with specks of pink and blue.

I had to pull over for a few quick shots – no time for a tripod, shutter release, or long exposures. Just f/4 and ISO 640 – not ideal, but the light and clients wait for no one.

The work I had to do involved a fire tragedy, but luckily no loss of life. We see these things often – tragic, real, sometimes preventable. But every now and then, if you’re open to it, the road and life offers peaceful pauses in between, like these moments from this drive.

And so ends the tale of chasing the sunrise – and the aftermath of fire.

Excited to have you here and to share this journey with you!
